When people talk about Aruba, usually first things that pop out on search engines are Flamingo. I would lie if I say, that I didn’t want to see them too. Flamingo in Aruba made their home on a private island called Renaissance Island also known as Flamingo Beach. Not many people, however, know how to visit flamingo beach in Aruba so here, I give some advice.

Renaissance Island is a private island and in order to gain access to it, you must be a guest in the hotel. I have explained more below. Flamingos are not on every beach in Aruba, so bear that in mind that you can ONLY find them on Renaissance Island. However, Aruba has so much more than just flamingo so read my post about Aruba the hottest destination for 2019 holiday. When you finish this post, you will be able to visit Flamingo beach so all you can do is start packing your beach towels and more, as you will be off to some fantastic adventure of your life.

Renaissance island on it’s own it a stunning little gem. One of the most instragramable place, and even without flamingos. There are two parts of the island. The first part which is Flamingo beach his own small cocktail bar and this is the adult beach as kids are only allowed 1h a day. You will mostly find here couples spending their honeymoons but as well, as small groups of friends and families. The main attraction is obviously flamingos here. They walk freely on the island and many people take pictures of them.

The second part of the island is a very quiet spot with restaurant and bars as well as sun lounges and plenty of trees for those who rather prefer to hide in a shade. The island on its own has a stunning unique vibe.

Other than Flamingo’s you will also find here iguanas! I was lying in quiet enjoying my cocktail and sun when I spotted rather a large one approaching me. At first, scared but then I have encouraged him to come over showing him a leaf. What a cutie.

How to see FlamingosNot the important part, visit flamingo beach in Aruba! Little I knew myself, that in order to see flamingos you have to book a room in the hotel or buy a ticket to a private Renaissance island. The island belongs to Renaissance Aruba Resort , a boutique hotel in Oranjestad. The hotel makes an exemption for their guest who stays with them, to have first access among, people who are staying in different hotels. This makes it special for the guests, who enjoy the stay with them a little bit more special as well as VIP treatment they paid for.

To access the island, you can only do via boat which starts from the hotel on its own. There is a special pass scan, so unless you have a pass you not allowed on the boat. You can purchase the pass for approximately $125 but… this isn’t as easy. There is a limited number of trips a day at the hotel, doesn’t want the flamingos being disturbed by large groups of tourists. The boat goes approximately every 15min as well. You can try to pre-book it but chances are very rare during a peak season. I would strongly advise booking a room ( or even an entire holiday) with the hotel as then you have the access with no problems.

To feed the flamingos, you can purchase food on the entrance to the island. You need some change for it though, so be prepared. After all day, Flamingos are being fed by many tourists so by the afternoon, they not hungry at all. My advice would be to go in the morning, as is less crowded and the birds are hungry so you will have better chances to catch that shot photo feeding them.

Please! Approach them with caution. At the end of the day they are wild birds, and they get scared when large groups surround them. Many people scare them, and for that sake of photo comes very close and often one person starts and the large crowd follows and the birds are clearly in distress. Please bear that in mind when visiting. The birds walk in groups around the island so there will be plenty of occasions to take your great shots.
