I have recently visited Cannes in France, and previously Ile De Re, a small island in South France. On each of my trip, I am exploring the love of wine. One of the best dry white wines is a pure Sauvignon Blanc, which literally means “Wild White.” This grape wine variety became a hit all over the globe that started from the regions of Bordeaux and Loire Valley in France. Before used in wineries, this variety is indigenous in the southern parts of France.
Initially, Sauvignon Blanc is a variety that is only for crossbreeding with other major grape wines. The famous example for the event is when Sauvignon Blanc paired with Cabernet Franc to produce Cabernet Sauvignon in the 18th century that is now a major variety for red wines.
However, when the phylloxera virus started to terrorize grape farms, some interspersed cuttings have been delivered to Chile to continue production. Enough of its history, let us now discuss the essentials about Sauvignon Blanc.
What can I expect in a Sauvignon Blanc?
It is a green-skinned variety with flavours opposite to a Chardonnay’s. Unlike other types of white wine, the Sauvignon Blanc oozes with herbaceous flavours of grass, Jalapeno, bell pepper, and gooseberry.
A typical Sauvignon Blanc wine is golden yellow. The ripeness of this variety predicts the flavour of the wine ranging from lime to a green apple to a passion fruit until it tastes like white peach. Usually, Sauvignon Blanc processed dry, but newer versions of this wine have a little amount of sugar added into it, this style is quite popular in California.
