For any reader who has been, or is getting married, you’ll probably emphasize completely with today’s article.

The cost of weddings is something that always grabs attention, usually because it’s the equivalent of a house deposit.

Well, there’s good news, in a way. If one looks back through history, it’s clear to see that this has always been an expensive garment. In other words, everyone has always been in the same boat and you haven’t suddenly joined an era where the cost of a dress has shot through the roof.

This is what a new infographic has seemingly revealed, anyway. Sure, it does focus on the celebrity market, but even if we roll back the decades it’s clear to see that it wasn’t uncommon for some to comfortably spend six figures on their gawn.

For example, over the last few years, there has been a lot of attention placed on the dresses of both Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton. If the figures in the infographic are to be believed, these dresses cost a respective £100,000 and £250,000.

However, if we turn back the clock for almost three decades, these dresses (almost) seem like a drop in the ocean. In the case of Princess Diana, her dress cost £151,000 in 1981. Taking inflation into account, this means that the dress is worth over £500,000 in today’s money!

OK, we’re going to assume that most of you haven’t got these six figures budget to spare. The point we are trying to make is that wedding dresses have always cost the earth to buy so if you are planning your big day, perhaps don’t feel too bad about it.
