Now is the perfect time to look after your precious jewellery as you might not wear them as often. Cleaning and polishing your rings or your watch don’t have to be done professionally, in fact there are little things that you can do at home that would make them look as good as new. Here’s a little guide I’ve put together to give you some tips on how to look after your jewellery in the safety of your home.

- Rings
In the current climate, keeping your hands clean is a number one priority and the same goes for your rings. Germs can easily lurk their way onto your rings and that’s why keeping them clean can be great for your health but also for their overall look. Firstly, make sure that you clean your fingers and your rings while washing your hands for at least 30 seconds. Secondly, to make your ring shines like it used to, you can simply drop it into a container of warm water mixed with a few drops of soap, if murk is still visible then you could invest in a good jewellery cleaning brush and give it a gentle scrub.

- Watches
Watches can be a bit more difficult to take care of as they contain really delicate moving parts. Of course, it depends on what watch you own, for example if you have a dial watch with a leather strap, then cleaning it will be completely different than cleaning a regular smartwatch. Genuine leather can last a long time; however, it needs to be taken care of regularly. I would advise to use a dry microfiber cloth to get rid of any dirt without damaging the leather, then you can dampen a jewellery cloth with a small amount of soap, wipe gently the strap and finally let it dry before wearing again. For plastic strap, you can afford to be a bit less careful as they’re less likely to get damaged.

- Necklaces
Necklaces are less exposed to dirt than rings or watches, however there are still ways to care for them. Just like a ring, you can place your necklace in warm water with few drops of soaps. If your necklaces are really dirty, then you can use a toothbrush to scrub the dirt off. Or you could purchase an ultrasonic jewellery machine, hassle-free it’s a great investment for cleaning your jewellery efficiently.

If like me, you really care about your jewellery then don’t let it go too dirty, sometimes it may not visible, but they may need some TLC anyway. Hopefully, these little tips will help you learn few tricks. And you, what do you do to clean your jewellery? Do you have any secrets to share with me? Leave your comment below.
