Choosing the right door handles is easier said than done, even more, when you are trying to pair the right door handle finish with colourful doors. Which door handle will suit my olive green kitchen cabinets? Or what door handle finish would stand out on my red entrance door? These might be questions you are asking yourself.
To help you choose the right door handle finish to either match or stand out on your doors, I’ve partnered up with Ironmongery Experts, UK door handle specialist, who have the experience and expertise to know how to choose the perfect door handles.

1. Pair warm finishes with dark colours.
Warm finishes include copper, brass, rose gold and standard gold. These types of door handle finishes will look the best when paired with dark and deep colours, such as moss green and navy blue. You can even combine other metal tones with warm finishes to create a visually interesting design.
Maybe you’ve always wanted to add colour to your entrance and now are thinking of painting it navy blue and adding a bright rose gold centre door knob would be a good idea – go for it! As this article on Tantrums to Smiles mentions, “Choosing a colour for your front door is a big decision but don’t be afraid to use colour to express some personality and add colour to your home.”

2. Pair cool finishes with light colours.
Do you have light coloured passage doors? Or perhaps light coloured bathroom cabinet doors? Cool finishes, such as nickel, chrome, stainless steel and pewter would be great choices for light coloured doors, such as baby blue, silver grey and pale yellow.
3. Pair neutrals with any colour.
If pairing different finishes with colourful doors seems like a nightmare for you, neutral finishes will be your best friends. Wood, black and iron finishes can be paired with any coloured door and create a stunning combination.
Matte black door handles are my go-to handles and one of my favourite ironmongery trends to follow – these will always look stunning! Mum’s the Boss shares the same opinion as me in a blog post, mentioning how “matte black ironmongery is my favourite trend, it’s mysterious, bold and elegant, all at the same time.”

4. Have fun with it.
These are not set rules to follow. The most important thing when doing anything interior design-related it to have fun, choose colours and furnishings that make you happy and that uplift your home. So, if you want to choose warm finishes for light coloured doors, go for it!
When choosing the right door handles, there are also other things to consider besides the finish of the door handle itself. As this article on the Oliver’s Madhouse explains, to choose the perfect door handle is important to also consider your budget, the intended function of the door handle and the design.
