If you care about making a difference, there’s always going to be a job out there for you to make an impact and bring about positive change. Let’s show you some key areas where you can push forward and make a difference. 

Law

Law is one of those areas that can be prone to some types of corruption, however there’s a lot of speciality fields. There’s human rights law, environmental law, and immigration law. There are many highly recommended immigration lawyers that work hard to bring hundreds of people into the UK every single day. When you are looking to make a difference, a career fields in law can initially seem like you are dealing with cases that are not necessarily contributing to the greater good, especially if you have to defend a criminal, but this is why it’s important for you to to take the the opportunities for pro bono work where you can. Ultimately, you can work as a solicitor as a day job, but fight for the causes you believe in as a part-time endeavour, which you can gradually build into a practice of your own. 

Education and Training

Being a teacher is not just about the ins and outs of Shakespeare, but about being able to train people in a variety of skills. You could help people learn the basics of first aid, you could follow a passion for mental health for disabilities and work with charities to provide all-important training, or you could work with children that have special educational needs. There are so many different career paths in terms of education that you can find the right one for your beliefs, it doesn’t necessarily have to be in a school environment. 

Social Work or Community Work

You could train as a social worker and work with children or adults. There are plenty of potential career paths, for example, youth justice work. Working as a social worker can be a very rewarding career choice, but it does expose you to many heartbreaking realities. But you can work in a variety of different roles, not necessarily just as a social worker, but youth workers, community education officers, or even work as a community arts worker, where you use arts to engage with community groups. 

Politics and Activism

If there are issues you feel particularly strongly about, and you wish to bring about change by raising awareness or influencing policy, there are a number of careers with think tanks, pressure groups, or working as a political researcher that can bring about lots of positive results. To work in these environments, you do have to be well ingrained with your subject matter and have the confidence to deal with a variety of conflicts. However, when you have a passion for something, this can instil you with that natural confidence.
