If you are busy planning for a house move, you will be well aware of just how stressful a task it can be. Trying to pack up a property whilst still living in it, coordinating timings, the thought of unpacking everything the other end; all of these elements can make a desire to move house quickly feel impossible. Don’t panic though. Follow these top tips, and you will be well on your way to a smooth house move.
Pack strategically:
Packing strategically can make the move feel less stressful, both when packing up your current house and when unpacking in your new home. Pack one room at a time and clearly mark the boxes so it is clear for the movers where in your new home to place them. This will enable you to unpack one room at a time, and allow you to take your time with non-urgent rooms in the first day or two.
Start early:
There will, of course, be items that will have to wait to be packed until the last minute, but there will also be things that can be packed up well in advance. Start early with these items. Anything usually stored in your garage, loft or in a spare room is a great place to start. You can also pack out-of-season clothing, infrequently used kitchen items and, if you have children, some of their toys.
Declutter as you go:
Moving house is a great opportunity for a thorough declutter. Decluttering as you go will cut down on the number of unwanted or unneeded items that join you in your new property, offering the perfect opportunity for a fresh start in your new home.
Pack a box of essential items:
Packing a box of essential items for your first evening in your new home will save you searching through box after box before you can make a cup of tea! Teabags, the kettle, a bottle of milk, toilet roll, your mobile phone charger, toothbrush, cleaning supplies and snacks are all items you might want to consider including in your moving survival box.
Don’t be afraid to call in friends and family:
Friends and family will likely be only too willing to help, and the great bonus is that they are usually happy to accept tea and biscuits as payment!
