How to Make Your Student Digs Feel Like Home
One mistake that many students make is not bringing mementos from home and not decorating their new university room. This can make the room feel empty and lonely, rather than a place where you want to spend time. It doesn’t need to be expensive to decorate your room and you can always bring items from your bedroom at home. Here are some easy and inexpensive ways to make your student digs feel just like home.
Decorate with Pictures
This is a simple and easy way to always have a reminder of good memories with friends, old and new. Print out some of your favourite photographs of you with your family and friends and get creative. Fairy lights are another super cute way to bring the room together and your pictures can be attached to these using mini pegs or string.

Add a Tapestry
Sometimes the bare walls of your accommodation can make them feel less homely and, unfortunately, you aren’t allowed to choose your own wallpaper. If you want to brighten up your walls and get rid of the drab white surrounding you, a tapestry can do just that. It helps if your student accommodation already looks homely, such as the stunning student pads by Collegiate AC which are fully kitted out and designed with students in mind. These bring both luxury and a sense of home for all students, in major cities such as Liverpool and Newcastle.

Cushions and Throws
Nothing screams homely like a bed covered in cushions and throws. After you have finished choosing some super soft blankets and some pillows to match, all you will want to do is snuggle up and watch Netflix with your new roomies. This is the perfect place to hang out and have some downtime.
Create a Pin Board
Many accommodations come with a pinboard already, meaning you can get creative with what you put on here and really make it your own. If your accommodation hasn’t got one, make your own or buy one. Here, you can put what matters most to you, print out inspiring quotes, and when exam season comes, you can even use it as a revision board. Making time to do all this will not only make your room a space you love; it will also distract you if you do start to feel a little homesick.

Add a Rug
If your flooring is made up of wood or tiles, it can feel a lot less homely. For many, adding a cute rug to split this up can make your room feel more welcoming, plus it’s nicer to walk around barefoot on a rug. Depending on how much space you’ve got, you can find a rug that’s right for you and fits in with your colour scheme. If your flooring is laminate, make sure to invest in an anti-slip or underlay. You can get these for very little at stores such as Ikea.
Moving into a new place is daunting and making it your own can help you feel less homesick and happier in your new place. Follow these simple tips to get started making your room somewhere you want to spend time.
