Decorating Around the Music: Incorporating Musical Instruments into Your Interior Design

Not everyone is fortunate enough to have an entire room dedicated to their love of instruments and music. If you live in a musical household, you may have spent a lot of time sighing over how to make your drum kit match with your interior decorating style.

Center Stage 

We will start with drums – one of the most popular instruments and one that requires a lot of space. You probably spent a lot of time researching and assembling your kit, picking the perfect snares, cymbals, and the best double bass pedal from DCP and all over, so you should proudly display it.

So, do just that! Turn your living space into a stage by making it a central piece. Surround the drum kit with comfortable seating, and you are always ready to put on a show! By making it a central piece, you draw the eye to it, and you will find it more comfortable to play rather than if you relegated it to a corner. This is an excellent option if you have a small space and need your areas to be multi-functional. Your living room becomes a practice room and a space to relax and entertain!

Hang It Up 

This piece of advice only applies to certain instruments like guitars or keyboards. You can hang them on the wall, and suddenly you have both an instrument and a piece of décor. Ideally, hang it somewhere within easy reach so you can pull it off the wall for an afternoon jam session. Plus, this ensures your guitar is off the floor and will not be knocked off its stand-by errant foot traffic.

Gallery Wall 

Pianos have graced central rooms in many homes, but there’s a way to make it both a central piece and part of the overall scheme. If your piano is against the wall, create a gallery wall above it. This pulls the piano into the room’s décor and allows it to harmonise with your interior. Try placing artwork or a plant on top of the piano to make a functional and decorative piece.

 Colour Coordinated 

 This piece of advice largely depends on the type of instrument you have and your commitment to a colour scheme. You can coordinate the instruments to be the same colour as your interior design, so it blends in with your décor.

This could be hard to do with wood instruments that only come in so many shades, but perhaps your colours complement wood? Colour coordinating does work well with pianos because they can easily be painted. Your piano can be coordinated with your wall colour or furniture, making it the most exciting piece of furniture you have.

Maximise Space 

If you are working with a smaller space, you know all about maximising nooks and crannies. Try using this space just for your instruments! Perhaps that space under the stairs is the perfect spot for drums or a piano? Coordinate the surrounding area, so it looks pulled together rather than a convenient place to store instruments.

Overall, if you have an instrument, you likely have a love for music. Remember this when it gets frustrating to incorporate music and interior design. There are plenty of ways for these two elements to harmonise – it just takes some practice!
