Navigating the world on your own when you have been in a relationship for a long time can be quite daunting. The break up itself can leave you having to cope with a whirlwind of emotions, constantly switching from feeling motivated to start your new future, to then finding yourself crying with a tub of ice cream. It can also be hard to know how to rid yourself of the loneliness of being on your own, but after some time, you will learn how to be single again. Be kind to yourself, and don’t rush into new situations, focus on healing yourself:
See your friends and family
Your friends and family can be a real source of solace when you are going through a break-up. They will be able to help you to work things out and get you through the difficult period at the beginning.
As time goes on, make sure that you don’t spend all of your time talking about your past relationship. Catch up with their lives, go out for food, and have some fun!

Tie up loose ends
When a long term relationship ends, there may be a lot of loose ends that you need to tie up. If you need support, this is something that your friends and family could help you with.
You may need to move all of your things out of the home that you shared with your family. If you have children, you will need to sort out an arrangement between you and your ex-partner, and if you were married, you might need to look at divorce solicitors.
Everything that you can do to tie up loose ends will help you to work through the relationship ending and get your life back on track.

Take yourself out on dates
Don’t rush into the world of online dating too soon; instead, take yourself on dates. There is no reason why you shouldn’t go to the cinema on your own to see the new release, or why you shouldn’t treat yourself to a meal at your favourite restaurant. Read funny relationship memes, jokes and allow yourself to take a break and love yourself back first. You deserve it, so treat yourself! Getting back into the dating scene can be pretty intimidating, especially when you’ve just come out of a long-term relationship. But hey, there’s nothing wrong with seeking a male companion to help ease you into this new chapter of your life.
Take up a new hobby
Keeping busy when you are newly single is an excellent way to keep your mind off the break-up. The best thing about being single is that you now have more time to spend on the things that you love doing, with no need to compromise. It is a great chance to try something that you have always wanted to try or to get back into a hobby that had taken a back seat.

Allow yourself to be sad
It’s okay to be sad. Your relationship was a big part of your life so there will be an element of grief now that it has ended. Beating yourself up about feeling down, or trying to hold in your emotions won’t do you any good. The best way to start feeling more like yourself is to let yourself feel what you need to feel. Allow yourself to cry so that you can pick yourself up when it is time to carry on.
